I'd like to see this series so I can comment intelligently on this guide entry. I've started watching "Missing Robot" just now.

Actually, "watching" is less accurate than "listening," as it is just the audio that they are providing.

i ended up seeing the video portion as well.
A comment: Douglas Adams made it clear that Dirk Gently was a different sort of detective. A "holistic" one. I don't think the episode I saw made that clear, at least to the degree that Adams did.
I wonder how this version of Gently can be reconciled with the version that Adams intended? Or was it made clearer in the other episodes?
(I've just checked IMDB t see if television is the only non-print medium in which Gently has been portrayed. Turns out that it has. A pity. H2G2 started on radio, then became a print version, then a BBC miniseries, and finally (many years down the road) a movie that wasn't all that successful. I guess it pays to be grateful for a TV series, but is this series disti8nctive enough to stand out?
Just wondering and asking questions.

Thanks for reading, paulh
In terms of reconciling the TV series with Douglas' books, I tried to address that in the second paragraph - I hope that helps, but let me know if you have any other questions, as it is interesting to ponder
"I guess it pays to be grateful for a TV series, but is this series distinctive enough to stand out?"
That probably explains why it wasn't commissioned for a third series indeed - well put. It reminded me a bit of Torchwood (Doctor Who with violence) and that is a challenging pitch to aim for...

Douglas Adams, bless his soul, liked the creature comforts -- soft sheets, for gods, an ark ship captain who spent oodles of time in his bath, and Arthur Dent, who stubbornly wanted to retain his usual routine, including the exactly right cup of tea.
There's a nice set of skewed but friendly mysticism in the source material that I'm not sure the writers really got -- or, they got it, but the network bosses overruled them.
But here I am, unwittingly trying to suggest how your entry should be written, when I haven't become immersed enough to rally know what the subject matter consists of.
And am I the only soul brave enough to plunge in and comment? I am so sorry.

I've reread your entry, and it sounds as if the writers and actors got it more than I thought. Perhaps Dirk gently was more insecure at the beginning of his career, and picked up self-confidence when he got to the stage that was represented by Adams's books.
(Maybe you can tell that I loved the books, and could be easily disappointed. I'm holding up a rather bar....)

Good thinking about Dirk's development from this series to the stage that was represented by the books
Yes, tricky with adaptations, that they can easily be not how you imagine them to be after having read the books. This series is definitely a reimagining of Douglas' characters, so I found it relatively easy not to compare it with the events in the books
