If you're a writer, you write.

Maybe someone else has come up with rules that you find helpful. Fine.

Or not.

Some long-dead writers have their works read by students. Teachers make them read the stuff.

Melville believed that he had been a failure as as writer. Not so, say literary experts.

Bach (J.S&gtsmiley - winkeye is now regarded as one of the very best composers ever, but for almost a century after his death, hardly anyone cared about his music. Now you can hardly escape it if you listen to classical music stations.

Maybe there are valid rules for writing or composing. Anthony Trollope is said t have written a certain amount first thing every morning. Some people still read his stuff.

So, he found his audience. The world is very complex now. If you manage to write and publish novels, only 20% of your readers will be male.

You may have better luck signing a movie deal to go along with publication rights. That way, people who read very few novels (which is probably most of us) might see the movie version instead.

If you create something, and a few people enjoy what you've created, you are probably doing something right. smiley - smiley

Success as a writer is mysterious. Some people make it, and some don't.
