Video: Gloomy Sunday

Molly the cat sleeping through 'Gloomy Sunday'.

There's this song called 'Gloomy Sunday'. It's depressive, even for a Hungarian song from the 1920s. The song was 'implicated' in a number of suicides – you know, the 'Werther' phenomenon – and it got banned a lot. The BBC wouldn't play it until this millennium.

One day, some of us over at the Daydream Journal thread were talking about Babylon Berlin, the German detective series set in the Weimar Republic. One of the episodes featured this song. So of course I got it out and played it.

The Mollycat was unimpressed.
