Ordinary European hornets are not usually aggressive. We've seen them in Britain as well as France but have never been stung. I would leave them in peace.

Friday, I was sitting in the car in the Walmart parking lot, waiting for Elektra, who was shopping. I was reading my German krimi on my tablet in peace, when what do I see out of the corner of my eye but an extremely large hornet, buzzing around my side-view mirror?
I watched as it went behind the mirror into the housing. Then I had to watch to see if it would come out - didn't want it in my garage. Eventually, it did.
Then it went right back in again. I had to wait for it to finally fly away.
My conclusion: hornets make you more anxious than trying to figure out whodunnit.
