We normally do not glue words together as much as in Germany.

I would make a really obvious statement about the shocking state of modern education but will refrain. Perhaps they are so brain dead that like Frankenstein's monster they need electricity to kick start their intellectual abilities (no I don't believe that either and yes it is off topic and I should have started another conversation on the subject but I am too lazy).

Good of you to mention that it is off-topic. I was just starting to swim...

The general presumption of a lot of "modern" education is that a teacher asks his/her pupils what they want to learn. This sounds great , but at certain ages (say, between 0 and 25-ish), this is not a good idea. I have three kids to prove that they are not yet capable of deciding what is good for them. (Watching YouTube all the time is good to learn English (up to a point) but they decline to watch things in German and French as well)

There is a reason to have a curriculum, is all I can say.

I'm with you, Caiman. smiley - laugh I always said my job was to provide people with a map of the subject they came to me to learn.

To ease the gap between what they want to learn and what they need to learn…?

Hey, yeah, well-put! smiley - smiley

Also, you can always start with what they want to talk about and move sneakily over to what they need - just like you hide the kids' veggies in their favourite foods. smiley - winkeye

Some kids become very good at sorting. That is when I started hiding their favourite food until they finished their veggies.

Related quote of our filter feeder: I don't eat green food, as it is my favourite colour.
