Is is your son you are speaking to throughout the poem?

Seeing the spring flowers on the way to the funeral, that's very moving.

I think kids do pick up when there's heightened emotion, even though they don't understand what it is.

It obviously makes me curious now about who your mother was, and your relationship with her.

We were caught in the saddest dance.

That's a very evocative phrase.

I don't think it's a good poem - just an attempt to capture a particularly difficult time.

On the contrary, I think its a most unusual poem because it is dealing with two relationships at the same time, like it has complex layers.



The funeral of your mother, grief of a daughter, but you as a mother and your relationship to your kid.

It makes me want to know more about the textures and stories of these layers.
