The relationship between Socrates and his wife (I think she was called Xanthippe)is interesting. 
The status of women in ancient Greece was very low and Socrates may have been showing himself to be broad-minded in marrying a woman who gave him a hard time.

Socrates seems to have been fond of arguing. His wife was also fond of arguing. Birds of a feather flock together.
The Socratic method has its uses, but it can also be used to badger people when they would rather enjoy a somewhat calmer routine...
