Hello Minorvogonpoet and Paulh! I'm glad you like the painting. Yes there is something a bit silly about that long crest! And you know, I really like Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss)'s style, I consider him an influence on my own work.

I should also mention that I think Seuss's Grinch is rather handsome. So, comparing the bird in your painting to a grinch was a compliment. The bird even looks better than the grinch, with those beautiful red eyes.

I can't have any of your beautiful creatures as pets. They would be unhappy here, so it is just as well. I will content myself with trying to attract butterflies.

Can't you attract birds to your garden?
I put out food - seeds and fat balls. We only get common birds including sparrows, starlings, blue and great tits, robins and blackbirds. The most striking bird we've seen recently is the pied of great spotted woodpecker. https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/wildlife-guides/bird-a-z/great-spotted-woodpecker/

Birds are very happy to visit my yard. I feed them well, in a lazy way. I grow sunflowers and coneflowers and lots of other seed-bearing plants. My wild roses have red rosehips.
I often see robins and blue jays here.

I too mainly provide a garden that's full of lots of food for the birdies. Some of the nicest things I have in my garden are southern boubous! Modestly but handsomely coloured, and with the most beautiful voices you've ever heard. And the male and female sings duets together!
