Right folks...this is my first Edited Guide Entry attempt, so be kind.
Just to explain about the part one/two thing. I'm on this site via a Telewest digital box, and the memory we have access to isn't too brilliant. What is in Part One was about as *much* as I could possibly fit in. However, it wasn't all of what I wanted to put into the article, so I created a link at the bottom, and started a new article. I hope that isn't too inconveinient for anyone, especially the Subs, butI checked with Scout KerrAvon, and he informed me it sounded feasible to put it into the Peer Review. After all, it can be pasted together afterwards.
So, there. Enjoy. And to make life easier, try and post comments to this thread, instead of the second. Stops with the messi-ness
So, let rip, but be kind! I've done my best!

This is pretty interesting, and you've obviously thought long and hard about the content of this album, which is portrayed very well.
However, I think that if you want anyone other than Marilyn Manson fans to read it, you will have to flesh it out a bit more. I realise that the focus of the entry is on the album, and not a bio of MM, but you make reference to some things, such as "pain and intellectual suppression of his childhood" which are lost on anyone who doesn't know about his childhood.
Also I didn't understand this comment:
>>Antichrist Superstar is a concept album, as are many great works of creativity
Do you really mean that many great works of creativity are concept albums?? I don't think this can be stated as fact...
There's a very good, in-depth article on the Goth lifestyle which you could consider linking to:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/A473924
Do you have any quotes from MM about this album? He's a very intelligent and articulate bloke and it would be very interesting to see what he has to say about some of these issues, particularly since a lot of people reading this may only know about MM because people blamed him for Columbine....

Well, the thing is, I was/am working on a limited amount of memory in terms of what I can put into the article. I had to cut out a lot of things in terms of quotes and background information in order to fit it into two parts and not babble on mindlessly. I am thinking of doing a Marilyn Manson Biography in terms of the person, to explain the personal background of the individual. That way I can link it up to the article, and people can find out more about the background behind the albums. Until then, I'm really not sure what else to put in, without ending up obliterating half of it owing to rubbish access to the site. And eventually, I want to have a Manson Biog, as well as all the albums dissected, and an explanation of the stageshow/costumes/controversy up in the Guide. Whether I write them or not, is another question!
Was that >great works of creativity< comment a bit too flippant? Shall I modify it?

>>I'm really not sure what else to put in
Maybe just a brief note about where he grew up, the fact that he comes from a Christian family etc. Two sentences would probably do it.
>>Was that >great works of creativity< comment a bit too flippant? Shall I modify it?
Not flippant, just inaccurate. The Sistine Chapel and King Lear aren't concept albums...

I didn't mean to make the impression that I thought *only* great works of creativity are concept albums! That would just be silly! I think I shall cut that bit out then. Although in it's own way, the Sistine Chapel *is* a concept album of sorts...being collected Biblical moments designed to inflict emotion. But I take your point...
He actually *doesn't* come from a strict Christian family. His families religion is Episcolopian (sp?) which is "diet" Catholicism...he was only made to go to Christian school because it was the best education his parents thought he could get. It had no relation to the religion of the family - in fact, the school denounced Catholicism as evil! He tried his best to get kicked out...but rather humourously, the school couldn't because they relied on school fees to run the place! Quite funny really. I think it would be best to start on a Manson biography soon, and link it up. Once I get hold of a PC, then I can write Guide Entries much more easily. Until then, this is about as much as I could cram in...

I was always under the impression that Episcopalians were 'high' Anglicans, rather than 'low' Catholics. I believe that they are known as the Protestant Episcopalian Church. Hence 'denouncing' Catholicism....

Saturnine Posted Nov 29, 2002
As Manson describes it in his auto.biog. it is "diet Catholic"...and the school that he went to denounced it. That's all I know. It *was* during the '60s/early '70s...so it could be different now. But I got that description from Manson's book...so I wouldn't know I'm afraid!

From what I seen, I like it a lot. One thing I think would be funny to add is, the album was recorded in New Orleans, but Manson and Trent both refer to it as Hell. So I think it would be cool if you had it writen with that in there, like "The album was recorded at Nothing Studis, New Orleans (Hell)." But that is just me. I added your site to my entry and if you do anymore entries on the albums please tell me so I can add them.

Newt - Thankyou! I wanted to add a lot more...quotes and the suchlike. But I'm uber-restricted by the platform I am working from. Shouldn't be like this for too long. I'm going to start a Manson biog. sometime soon, and start on the *Portrait of an American Family* dissection as well. Antichrist was an easier starting block...it's more prominent etc etc. I'll let you know when I get that done! I'll ask whoever edits this, to add in the necessary links and the suchlike to yours and the NIN article.
No one's done a Skinny Puppy page yet, have they?

Really good! Made me play it again.
I think that someone might point out that to a curious reader and someone new to MM, they might not know what sort of music it is ie: very loud, savage, heavy, unearthly, haunting etc .... makes Metallica sound kindy wimpy!
There again, they may not!

No. On a digibox. Rubbish memory. Will be finding/selling soul for cash to get me a laptop sometime soon. Then all will be solved. Until then, I have to reply on the wee-Subs to glue it altogether right. That's what they are there for after all...

Looks great . I agree that a comment on the style in basic terms would be good, for someone's there's never heard MM (poor souls). You comment well on the changes within the album- but a description of MM's overall style would help.
If you're really stuffed for memory, why not try putting the entry into plain text? I know it'd by a bugger, but it should give you some extra space to play with.

If I put it back into plain the link to the second part will be shot. Don't think I could spare that just for more memory.
If I include the term *industrial-rock* within the opening paragraph, would that sum up the music well enough?

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences Posted Dec 5, 2002
Yep, I think that would cover it. But you could still include a link.. as http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/A-wibblydob. I'd leave it as it is, but consider plain text if someone comes along with some really good extra material to include.

I'm counting on whichever person has the misfortune to edit this, to add the links. I was going to, but then I though, if the subs going to do it anyway, why waste the space.
I'll be suprised if anything else is required, but if so, I shall certainly switch over to plain. I put the article through my stringent personal editing check before I submitted it.
I loved the technical link-speak by the way

On the second part of the entry you have for the lyrics of Cryptorchid - "The time has come for better things", but really it should be "bitter things". Also on The Minute of Decay I know in the booklet for the album it has the line, "There is no cure for what is killing me" but if you listen to the cd they don't use the line in the song. And for Wormboy you have "Oh no, I am Everything they said I was" but it should be "I am all the things they said I was". Thought you would like to know that. Very nice entry! I like it a lot.
