There's something Dickensian about that staircase. The plain wooden stairs, with the tinsel wrapped round them and presents outside the door.

I have no clue what the explanation was about.
Those are nice solid stairs. Fairly clean,too -- no visible spiderwebs or cobwebs. I would like to make this into something spooky, but the material doesn't really support that.
They look like the sort of stairs I'd find in my local supermarket. When the men's room on the ground floor is out of order, they would put a sign at the bottom of the stairs telling patrons to go up the stairs, turn right, dodge the vent pipes, and use the facilities. There would always be a strong odor of chlorine, and you would fervently pray for the regular bathroom to be fixed as soon as humanly possible .

I like this photo - the black and white brings out the texture of the wood, and the lighting is somehow magical
