Sometimes it is difficult to be emotionally honest about things you've done which didn't work out well.
It's easier to live with an edited version - actually, it wasn't my fault, it was someone else's fault, it was society's fault.

You're right - it's easier. But it isn't what they pay us the nonexistent big bucks for, is it? Good point!

You could get a story out of it though, if a person turns up with the truth, or at least, a different version of the truth...

Definitely. Have you seen the film 'Rashomon'? Or the easier version of it they did on Star Trek: The Next Generation?

That is one of your best efforts, Dmitri.
I do know someone who is a bit like Shirley Vance. (It's a guy.) Kindliness toward him i the only thing I can think of that might help, and it's tricky to manage it without seeming condescending or patronizing.
I wholeheartedly admire Fred Rogers, but I can't be as saintly as he was. I can often control myself, but I'm apt to slink away after a failure to connect properly. Fred Rogers would hang in there for as long as it took.
