I would happily take a deeply weird film that was made with some creativity and passion over much of the derivative dreck that floods my local theaters every week.

Even if I was the only person in the world who appreciated it. Even if no one I know is interested in it.

Granted, I am no more able to imagine a need for a feminist "Charlie'
s Angels" movie than you are. Let's live a bit dangerously, though. A lot of classics that we take for granted now were detested for shaking things up when they first came up -- "Gulliver's Travels," "Wizard of Oz," and almost any Judy Blume book you can think of. There are still paces where "Huckleberry Finn" and "To Kill a Mockingbird" are banned. When I went to see "Last temptation of Christ," people were picketing outside the theater. When "Henry and June" was going to be shown in the Boston Suburb where I worked, the selectmen talked the multiplex into not showing it. (Then the local art cinema showed it, and I *had* to see it. There was *nothing* shocking about it,despite all that fuss!) Sometimes we need to be brave.

But not on behalf of "Charlie's Angels." I suppose.
