I saw it as a school assignment. (The whole school went there) The ride home was very quiet. A lot of students cried.

I spend quite a lot of time in lifts, but Schindler's Lift always amuses me

Yes indeed
People in our school were expected to watch the film as well, but I was only just 15 at the time and it is a 15 Certificate film so I had to excuse myself half way through...
I found http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090315/ When the Wind Blows very powerful in the same year 
but my classmates weren't impressed by it just because it was animated
