Yes, I looked up the answers. I hope that this was the right way to go. smiley - smiley

When I think of my own ancestors, I find that there is less information the further back I go. Of my eight great-grandparents, I have scanty information on four, and none at all for the other four.

My maternal grandmother lived next door to her parents. One night, she heard her father calling to her. She got up, dressed, and went next door t see what he wanted. When she got there, he had just died. Her mother handled the funeral arrangements, and then died herself. smiley - sadface

My paternal grandmother had a hellish life living in the same house as her mild-mannered husband.and her bulldozer-like mother.

When you're looking for clues about famous people's great-grandmothers, you have a poor success-to-failure ratio. Three chances to get it wrong, and one chance to get it wrong. smiley - sadface I'm trying to just have fun with this.

Looking forward to the next week's quiz.

Sorry, I meant *one* chance to get it right.

At least this post counts as a hit for the monthly statistics.

smiley - laugh I hear you. Thanks for sharing! What an amazing story.

This reminds me that I probably owe Create a story about my grandfather, but I've been too busy to write myself...

2/10. some very weird factoids in there!

I wonder Paul, just how much history we lose by not collecting grand-parental trivia? Hence the importance of the Create subject, no matter how whacky or mundane, these tales are truly important.

I wrote a short story book for my kids about the tales my grandfather told me when I was young, hopefully it will be a family trait and my descendants can hear all about our misadventures and have a glimpse into life in the 20/21st century.

I wish my great-great-great-grandparents had kept a diary. They moved from North Carolina to Tennessee after the Civil War. In a Conestoga wagon pulled by a team of oxen. My great-great-great-grandmother belonged to some Native American tribe, but we have no idea which one. Probably Catawba.

Anyway, this is a journey that today takes a few hours by car, although it's still difficult, as you have to go over a mountain range, but back then, they knew they'd never return, so it was a big deal. I'd have loved to read about their experiences, and know what they thought.

I can probably use that incident with my grandmother as a separate entry of some kind. There have been occasional psychic episodes over the generations. My mother has had some amazing ones, and I've had one or two. The thing is, these are rare, somewhat random, and clearer in retrospect than they were at the time.
