A nice bucolic scene, with water easily at hand.
I suspect that most people who try to "catch" butterflies are merely interested in following them to see where they go. I remember following lots of butterflies in my youth. If I'm lucky, the milkweed I've planted this year will entice them to come to my yard.
A few years ago, when I was visiting my sister's cottage in new Hampshire, I saw a Monarch butterfly walking on the ground. I gently encouraged it to climb on my hand, where it sat.
Ah, but I'm drifting away from your story. Sorry. This is just such a precious time of year. When it gets hot in the earl;y afternoon, who wouldn't want to head for a shady place, perhaps within splashing sdistance of a cool brook or river?

A Monarch butterfly just came into my garden. I guess they really can smell milkweed. I have a pot of Butterfly Milkweed next to my porch. It's a in bloom, even.

Some butterflies mate with each other as they are coming out of the chrysalis. This saves time later on, and ensures that the females will have fertilized eggs ready when she sees a suitable place to lay them..
Butterflies are the closest thing to magic that I have found in this life.
