We sometimes have ladyslippers in these parts, though they seem to become rarer year by year. They're the same color as the orchid in the picture, and they're related to orchids in some way. (I could grow some in my yard, but they're expensive and not guaranteed to survive -- not that anything is certain.)
Anyway, I'm glad to know that orchids can survive in places that are not remote.
