But the Russians are *also* complex

The Russians have had some fairly bad governments over the years, at least by comparison with the perfect way we Brits and Yanks run our countries. During the early Gorbachev era, when tanks rolled into Red Square to quell demonstrations, babushkas came from the countryside with baked potatoes to feed to everybody, including the guys in the tanks.
Let me be clear that Russia has some wonderful people. Their governments over the years have tried to starve them and deny the their rights. probably because of this, many Russians grow vegetable gardens. You never know whee your next meal will be coming from.
When newly-released facts about the atrocities of Lenin and Stalin came to light, many Russians were distraught. Ivan is not our enemy. Yes, there are gangsters and organized crime cartels in Russia, but here are also many decent people.
Those guys i tanks that I mentioned? They refused to shoot anybody.
