I have no idea which tiles were original, and which aren't.

That is a nice early version of Ludo. Take care not to get kicked off though.

Where I come from, Ludo is called "Don't you fret, man!" (free translation) Most people do fret, playing this game. (Grand)fathers usually see it as their sacred task to kick everybody else off repeatedly.

smiley - blush I didn't realize this had anything to do with Ludo.

smiley - laugh And I don't know what 'Ludo' is.

The more intricate tiles are the originals. I am always in awe of the imagination and skills of late-19th-century builders.

Ludo is the game where you have to get your 4 pawns from the base to "home" first at the throw of the dice (up to four players). If you get on a spot that contained another pawn, the other pawn will have to start over from base, leading to a lot of frustration. Some people play to win, others just to annoy the hell out of the others

For German speaking people: Ludo is "Mensch ärgere Dich nicht!".

The small tiles reminded me of the paying board.

smiley - snork I know that kids' game. It's called 'Sorry!', I think.

We had a version of 'Snakes and Ladders' when my youngest sister was small, called 'Candyland'. Same thing, only in ice cream colours. Every time her 'man' passed my other sister's, she'd stop and gleefully 'bop' her 'man' repeatedly before moving on...this annoyed the victim and made my mother laugh. smiley - laugh

Candyland makes me think of Vanellope Von Schweetz, a character in the Wreck it Ralph movies. She started in the Sugar Rush arcade game, where she raced cars.

Interesting to see how one game can have different intentions in different languages. Sorry! suggests that kicking the others off is not on purpose. Ludo doesn't give any clue towards emotions, While the German/Dutch/French version imply that whoever gets kicked off shouldn't make a fuss and get on with it.
