Ah, that answers that question.
A couple of minor things – the official name of 'The Dæmons' is with an æ (æ rather than ae and 'Red Dwarf' being the name of a ship should be in italics.

The book was published in 1997? That's really a pity you know. Because Stargate SG1 only launched in 1997 and that would have been the perfect addition. Daniel Jackson has always been my favourite sci-fi archeologist.

I've only seen the film, which was made in 1994 (I didn't have a telly 1998-2002).

I always liked the series much more than the film. The characters got much better I think and I also prefer the actors. We got it all on DVD, also Atlantis. They go around uncovering relics and ruins on different planets all the time. Or even on Earth. I mean the whole story starts with digging up stuff in Egypt.

Thanks for reading, Tav!
The conference took place in 1997 but the book wasn't finished until 2002 so I found mention of Stargate SG1 I will work that in for you somehow as we have an Edited Entry about it A765597

Lovely entry!
I wondered: when they discussed fictional female archaeologists, did they at all mention the 1981 movie 'The Sphinx'? Lesley-Anne Down's portrayal of an archaeologist set records for awful.

I couldn't find mention of The Sphinx, but there was mention of The Mummy (2000) that is described as 'absolutely appalling'

Looking forward to get to this entry through the Zen navigation game. So much to link to!
Also a Stargate fan. I have SG-1/ Atlantis and Universe on disc. (I like Universe for the depth in the personalities (good people doing bad things and the reverse)Less archaeololy though)

I liked Universe only in the end when they finally got to a point with the black obeliscs. For me it didn't feel like 'depth' but more like a soap opera.

I do not normally see soap operas, so I may have missed that approach. I did like the fact that they created something which didn't feel like SG-1 reruns.

I've enjoyed another read-through. The only comments I have are that perhaps it should be clearer in the following sentence that two different stories are being discussed 'archaeologists investigate the Tomb of the Cybermen and release the Ice Warriors from their frozen prison.' Otherwise people may inadvertently wonder why Ice Warriors are in the Tomb of the Cybermen.
