I only tap dance when I'm dreaming, but you should see how well I do!
Hines and Baryshnikov, Astaire and Powell, Astaire and almost anybody!

Baryshnikov said this about Astaire. In public. 'What do dancers think of Fred Astaire? It's no secret. We hate him. He gives us a complex because he's too perfect. His perfection is an absurdity. It's too hard to face.'

Frederick Emanuel Austerlitz started dancing with his big sister when he was a kid. He didn't want to, but his mama made him because they needed the money. Here's what he looked like:

Dmitri, Dmitri, you're just feeding my obsession to post links to rare musical theater songs. Such as:

"Hoops" from "Bandwagon"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Iy08uiRgwI

"fascinating rhythm"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlPqMtxG--g

"Night and day" from "The Gay Divorcee" [the Broadway musical, not the movie]

Astaire and his sister were stage legends before Fred went into movies.
