The Sad Death of Aurelio Caballero

Muerte de Aurelio Caballero

This broadsheet from 1892 tells a sad story. Aurelio Caballero of Veracruz, Mexico, died of yellow fever. Yes, the broadsheet said he died of vomiting. After explaining what happened in prose, the broadsheet commemorates the dismal event in verse. The last stanza sums things up:

Unhappy Caballero

has ceased to exist,

avoiding long years

of a prolonged suffering.

Sadly, we have nothing more to report from Veracruz.
