My smiley - cat wouldn't fall for that – she knows that the food will be there for a little while. If there are new smells in the house she will want to see what is going on and the only way she will know whether it meets her approval is if it allows her close supervision/involvement. And some pouncing if it moves smiley - winkeye

PS I wrote this yesterday evening, with line about the smiley - cats in.

I thought, 'This needs an illustration.' I got the camera and blanket and went into the bedroom....

....where TJ was already on the bed. This is how he came to decorate the entry. smiley - winkeye

Yes, this excellent Entry tempts me to investigate the world of 'fleece' too! I know a few people who would find one a good way to keep their legs warm A891083smiley - biggrin

Just out of interest, what does one of these blankets cost the Baptist ladies to make? I have just been rather surprised by the cost of smiley - sheep patterned fleece in my local haberdashery, but the plain colour is very reasonable smiley - bunny

smiley - ok I'll try to work that link in for you.

I just checked, and locally, JoAnns Fabrics will sell you a 'kit' of both pieces (with instruction sheet that you don't need because of the Guide Entry smiley - blush) for $9.99.

But the ladies buy in bulk, and probably pay no more than $3-$4 per yard, I suspect, because they are very canny shoppers with donated moneys. smiley - winkeye They may have got even further bargains by buying from wholesalers, going-out-of-business sales, and the like. I'll ask when I get the chance. smiley - smiley

Example of their shopping prowess: one of those ladies needed a sewing machine. She found out that one was on offer at an estate sale. She acquired the sewing machine at auction for $7. Low bidding because younger Americans do not sew as a rule.

The sewing machine came in a 'lot' with sewing notions - scissors, buttons, fabric, the entire ensemble needed to make a quilt, etc - which was sort of a nice plus. My sister got the quilt set as a gift, along with this story.

But wait...

On the way to load up the car, the buyer was stopped by a woman who offered her $5 on the spot for 'that lovely scarf that's lying on the machine.'

So the whole thing cost $2....

As I said, go shopping with these women. smiley - winkeye

Thank you smiley - biggrin

Aha, that kit sounds OK indeed smiley - ok

I admire the shopping prowess smiley - applausesmiley - biggrinsmiley - laugh

Yes, does make a difference buying in bulk and wholesale smiley - ok My local shop could manage £8 for a plain one, and £15-£20 for a patterned one, so that surprised me, but it definitely makes a special gift with the handmade touch smiley - biggrin

You should try out charity shops, plenty of material available in the ones I go to. An old double quilt cover would do this job I reckon. I had some lovely double bed bedding which I've just given away smiley - rolleyes to think I could have made some friendship blankets... smiley - zen

smiley - eureka That is a good idea about the charity shops. My nearest ones don't have any material, but I certainly know some that do... Excellent idea to 'upcycle' bedding, as well!
