Thanks for that SashaQ! Over here it's not starlings that fly like that, but we have two other species that form huge flocks that fly with amazing coordination and making wonderful changing displays. The one is the African River Martin - look at this video:

The other is the red-billed quelea. This little seed-eater is the world's most abundant bird species! And they sometimes form ridiculously massive flocks. Here are some coming in to drink water:

That is a superb video of the African River Martins - excellent to see the shapes the birds make as they flock around, and the sound was amazing!
That was amazing seeing the Red Billed Queleas gathering at the watering hole, too! Great photos on the link as well, especially the one with the zebras and the sky full of the birds!

with the changes to the environment etc and urbanisation stuff ie: cutting down hedges for fences, "we" here are seeing less starlings/hedge and house sparrows and other small birds. But there are more and more ring-necked doves and pigeons
