This Entry is dedicted to Bluebottle, who was first in the queue to buy the film when it was released on DVD.
I waited a few more years before buying it, but overall I enjoyed the film.
I have tried to take Dmitri's advice and wrote this Entry with the aim of not treading too hard on the toes of imdb while still including interesting and useful information in a concise way. I appreciate Peer Reviewers' thoughts

Had we really not got an entry on this already? I am amazed. Well done for spotting that!
Not having been in the UK when the radio series went out and only being introduced to the books by an old school friend, I went and saw the film with no baggage and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing that bothered me was Zaphod's second head but I had known that there was a lot of discussion about that during the making of the film and they did the best they could.
You don't mention that there was a CD version as well. I only know about this from conversations here on h2g2 but I thought it was yet a third version with yet other variations on the story which could be included in the "number of incarnations" mentioned in the first paragraph.
I think there was an interview with our own Jim Lynn (U6) somewhere on the DVD version I have. I'll have another look.

Thanks TC I was surprised too - we may be the Guide to Life, the Universe and Everything but there is definitely more room for Hitchhiker's information
Ah! Yes, of course there was an interview with Jim Lynn - I have worked that in I have also worked in the cameo by the Isle of Wight for Bluebottle

I think this is a very good summary.
The only part I am not quite sure about is the 2nd paragraph of the 'Mostly Harmless' section. Is it too obscure for people who are not fans? Do Frenchurch and the Arkleseizure need a few more words? I am not sure.

Thanks Tav
Excellent points - I added a few more words to explain the Great Green Arkleseizure being a nose and Fenchurch being a woman not a train station
