It's a spacecraft. Green, it is.

Apparently this Dutch originated chain of supermarkets is present in 42 countries. "De Spar" can either be the tree in the logo, or referring to an acronym for "Door Eendrachtig Samenwerken Profiteren Allen Regelmatig" roughly translating as "Through united cooperation everybody profits regularly).
In Germany "De" was skipped from the name as "Spar" means saving money.

In English, a 'spar' is a pole for a mast or yard on a sailing ship. I wonder if there's a connection there?

The worst use of a conifer in advertising has to have been the Diana paper factory in Xanthi, Greece, in the 80s.

They used an image of a pine forest - their source of raw material - on the wrapping of their toilet paper.

I kept trying to talk one of their employees into the idea that you wanted something *soft* in the picture....like my fluffy calico kitten, Cleopatra....smiley - winkeye

42 countries. Now why do I find that significant?

By the way has anybody got any spar change on them, not that I usually beg...

I think that there is a definite link between spar / mast. You need long, round straight wood for masts.

Sorry, no spar change in my spa(a)rvarken (piggy bank)

That is interesting information!

I'd not appreciated the logo was a stylised fir tree, and I did think it was a German company because spar means save, so I have learned a lot there smiley - ok

Yes, interesting about packaging, and fir trees on toilet paper not quite giving the right sort of ambience smiley - laugh Reminds me of a Dave Gorman sketch, too, where he had two bags with pictures of rabbits on them - one was food with rabbit in it for cats and the other was food for rabbits but it was not obvious which was which smiley - laugh
