Lovely piece, your dad defending that bit of carpet, very cool, and rings true to all of us who've known those with experience of being on the sharp end.
That instinct is soooo hard to quell. Look around any crowd, see the guy getting told off by his missus for overreacting or being overprotective? The instinct to identify and nullify any potential threat doesn't fade with age or change of profession...yup there's millions out there!
The need to call home to reassure yourself everything's ok, the world might fall apart if you're not physically there to protect loved ones, often results in another telling off!
Hats off to your dad, and the millions out there that have put themselves in harms way.
