I have noticed a predominance of yellow flowers this year (gorse, broom, buttercups, dandelions, cowslips etc. I wonder if there is a scientific reason for this and do other countries in differing climates, have other colours as the most noticeable, like jungles in South America, East Asia, Africa and deserts in these regions as well as North America?

Good thought - maybe Willem knows. It sounds right to me.
For instance, around here we get hummingbirds, and they like red. There are lots of red bushes about.
