I haven't been birdwatching in Wirral, but I've seen marsh harriers at Elmley on the Isle of Sheppey. I've seen hen harriers in France, but you'd be very lucky to see them in the UK, as they're almost extinct.

Yes, that is a shame about the hen harriers that they were persecuted to near extinction... Conservation work is hopefully helping, though Raptors are fascinating birds...

Twenty years ago I visited a friend in Rochester, New York. She took me to a canyon where falcons and hawks and eagles regularly set forth to catch their prey. It was exciting -- and maybe a little scary -- to see big eagles come down in your direction, only to veer off in search of smaller prey.

Thanks paulh - great view of the turkey vulture buzzard in that video and I learned that we have an Entry about it A2430244
The shape of the wings is definitely distinctive - not like my buzzard A87902571
