Video: Delilah Meets Carmen

Rosabel Morrison as Carmen

Carmen is an opera. It's based on a 'scandalous' novella by Prosper Mérimée. All very shocking in 1875. It has more or less the same plot as the Tom Jones hit 'Delilah'.

'Delilah' is, in the opinion of this keyboardist, one of the worst Moritatslieder ever composed. Listening to Tom Jones sing it on the radio used to crack us up as teenagers. 'And so before they come to break down the door…' Seriously? Apparently, the first guy to record 'Delilah' hated it so much, he wouldn't include it on his album, and lost out on fame and fortune. Yes, but he kept his musical integrity intact. We are also informed that Welsh rugby fans sing this at matches. That is just plain weird.

Here's the video, for what you can make of it.
