A Conversation for Writing Right with Dmitri: Self-Presentation in Writing
The advantage of writing

Surely, the advantage of writing is that you have time to decide what to say and how to say it. You can try to work out how to make your writing sound witty, or profound, or inspiring.
Talking to people is much harder! If you're anything like me, you end up standing in a corner with a glass of , saying nothing at all!

Nobody could ever accuse you of showing off by mentioning Romanian produce.
Unless, I suppose, you were a Cold War Bulgarian...

Yes, writing is easier than talking - just this evening someone asked me a rather personal question that I didn't know how to answer for the best and ended up blurting out slightly random words, but that was one way to change the subject so the conversation ended on good terms!
I really like your checklist, DG - I've mentioned before how it takes me a while to write posts and things because I read and re-read, but you have succinctly articulated what I'm aiming for, which is reassuring
(quite a few 'I's in there, but hopefully this posting comes across as me saying that the Entry and this thread brought interesting anecdotes to my mind that are hopefully enjoyable and reflective of what you all said).

There's no "I" in "team", but there is one in "building."
And, of course, many I's (and other letters) in antidisestablishmentarianism. Not that we need to build one of those.

If you want to glue fabric in Finland, you definitely need your i's (tekstiililiimaa)
