Nightshift

1 Conversation

We are amazed that Freewayriding managed to write this poem. He was pretty tired the other week.

Nightshift

A town by night
Town Hall clock
Victorian chimes.
Freezing fog
Hides hands at three.
Cockroach cabs
Devour yuletide revellers
Fast food confetti
Dances in the breeze.
Sleep in limbo between
Memory and wish.
Waiting for dawn's kiss
to end the cold.
Yearn for the heat of family
Soft breaths in the night
Warm in beds
Miles from here.
Searching the sky
For glimpse of day.
Clock moves on,
But oh so painfully slow.
Nightshift sadly just begun.
Wishing heartbeats away
Need the cold ride home.
Keen to sleep the day.
