A very brief look at a sadly often ignored underground railway station!

Thank you for writing about this! smiley - biggrin

Excellent to highlight what is indeed an often overlooked place, and the events of its history are important to remember too...

I visited the Town Hall this summer, and enjoyed taking some time to look up at the architecture around Hamilton Square, as it is very rare to have chance to do that - most of the time I am just passing through the station on the way to Liverpool, as you say smiley - ok

This is an interesting description of a station.smiley - smiley However, I think it would merit a bit more information.

As we have an international readership, I would start by clearly stating where the place is - on the Wirral side of the river Mersey, West of the city of Liverpool.

Then the history, starting with the building. Do you know the name of the architect? How long did it take to dig the tunnel? For a while, they obviously ran steam trains through the tunnel. What did they do about the smoke? During the war, did they use the tunnels as air raid shelters?

Than a bit about the refurbishment and the present day building.

Sorry, I've given you a load more work to do! (At least you'll have a good photo to go with the article, which is more than I usually manage. smiley - laugh)

Thanks DG.

I'll have a think MVP. I wanted to keep this brief but take your point about international readers. I thought I'd covered using the station during air raids, will have a reread.

As for the technical aspects back in 1886.... I'll put a few more lines in when I get a chance.smiley - cheers
