Very interesting, particularly the reason for Hawtrey's sudden departure from the Carry Ons (I'd always imagined he was dismissed for something drink-related).

One small correction: Ronnie Baxter produced Rising Damp for Yorkshire Television, not Thames.

I've not come across these, either, so this Entry is interesting smiley - ok

So that it can be a standalone Entry, I wonder if you need to spell out that it is Carry On Up the Khyber and Carry On Camping, as "Up the Khyber and Camping" looked a bit odd to me at first...

"Anthro Pod" - should that be "Arthro Pod"? smiley - laugh

Ooo - Footnote 4 - I like it! smiley - laugh

Valuable again to include the Bechdel Test smiley - ok

Thanks for your comments all, I've made some changes as suggested.

Charles Hawtrey's alcoholism was definitely getting out of hand, with his passing out and so forth, which is why it really was the last straw. Which is tragic as he always gave such mesmerising performances.

Sid James definitely says 'Anthro' rather than 'Arthro' Pod. 'Anthropod' is another, less common word for 'arthropod'. The joke would have worked either way smiley - shrugsmiley - ant

The Bechdel Test is still very limited in its usefulness, but I like it so I'm bunging it in. Even if most 'Carry On's pass (I've not checked them all yet so I don't know either way) you can't exactly claim that the 'Carry On' films had a feminist agenda, but it is fun.

The Bechdel Test is interesting in its limitedness, given the number of films that do fail. Very interesting in these films to know that even though the women each have specific roles (eg crumpet and matron), they do speak to each other and not just about men...

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

I watched all 31 Carry On films plus the 13 episodes of 'Carry On Laughing' in the 31 days of January and now my carryonathon is done.
