I started to hold this entry for one more day. If you read it, you'll see why.

Full disclosure: I do not particularly like Henry David Thoreau.

But we should give the devil his due, and he DID help the US pencil supply.

As it's April Fools Day, I was looking for a bit of trickery worked into this. Apart from the pun in the title I didn't find anything Did I miss it? smiley - laugh

I don't think I've got any crits. Although I wouldn't call King Henry VIII 'Good'.

We need an irony smiley, don't we? smiley - rofl

Thanks, MVP! And no, no trickery, other than being snarky about a US icon. Most of his admirers haven't tried to read that much of his prose. smiley - rolleyes

On pencil 'leads', lead actually was used as an alternative to silverpoint prior to discovery of graphite.

Either lead or silver will make a black mark on hard wood or parchment.

Unfortunately, lead is impermanent and eventually will turn white as the lead oxidizes, sometimes in lesscthan a single day.

Silver is permanent, and there are many well preserved silverpoint studies by renaissance artists still in existence.

Obviously, graphite is less expensive than silver.
