How to fight fake news? Study the story behind the story.
At least, that's what Jane Addams did. And if you don't know who Jane Addams was, you might want to read this.

I do love these stories, thanks for cheering me up
I have to comment upon: >>Either way, a Devil Baby was born. It was deformed, with horns, a tail, and possibly cloven hooves instead of feet. It might begin to speak immediately, and utter profanities. It might be burned by the christening's holy water, and run around madly.<< I wonder that it's even worth mentioning the burning caused by holy water at the infant's Christening, after all, any vicar/preacher worth his salt would surely refuse to anoint such an infant
Oh and just a tweak required to your Guide Ml, you have white spaces in your h2g2 links, causing them to be broken and to not show up in the sidebar.

Well, in the US, you could probably get a preacher to baptise a watermelon, if you looked hard enough...and Jane Addams did mention christenings in her story.
Thanks! That Word program puts in spaces sometimes. I will go and fix that.

I wonder if there really was a poor deformed baby some day that started the whole myth.

The whole story could just as well play on Discworld and Jane Addams would be the local witch who shakes her head about how stupid people are.
