Willem, this was quite an adventure. I am glad you had such a good time. What is the tribe's name of the native people you visited? Those night blooming flowers are really pretty. I guess they get pollinated by moths. I am glad to see you are getting opportunities to investigate the flora close by. The diversity in people and plant life there never fails to amaze me.

Hello Elektra! Glad you enjoyed this. The people are Pedi people ... I don't think these days there's much division into smaller tribal units, things got pretty mixed up since us Europeans arrived. But Sekhukhuneland is the core region for the Pedi people and it's always been relatively free of white influence. There's not a single town or city in the region with a notable white population. Just to give you an idea what that means ... my own town, Polokwane, is the only one up north here with a sizeable number of white people and us whites are still less than 1.5% of the population! Sekhukhuneland formed the main part of the old 'Bantustan' called Lebowa, which the apartheid government meant to become an independent homeland for the Pedi people.

We have a museum here which preserves some of the old-days Pedi traditions ... I'll soon do an article with photos about it, how about that?
