This entry is based largely on Caroline Moorhead's book 'The Village of Secrets -Defying the Nazis in Vichy France'.

Excellent! I didn't know this story, and it's fascinating. Good job!
Am I right that this area is near Cevennes, where Robert Louis Stevenson and his donkey travelled around?

Chambon-sur-Lignon is at the northern end of the Cevennes mountain range, which is part of the Massif Central.
The highest part of the Cevennes is round Mont Lozere, which is further south. This area is a Parc Naturel, and I think this is where Stevenson travelled.

You don't have to work it in here, but I did an entry that mentioned those Huguenots, which is why I asked: A87846844

I remember that lovely entry and I'll put a link on Cevennes.
RLS's starting point at Le Monastier-sur-Gazeille isn't that far from Le Chambon

Oh, that's interesting. It shows how the independent spirit of that region lasted down the years. I love context like that.
