You like games? How about a bit of role play?

Looking over the Air Force's Shoulder, 1943

Did you ever play soldier/sailor/airman when you were a kid? Did that mean running around the backyard yelling 'Bang!' or floating boats in the bathtub, or circling the garden with outstretched arms making buzzing noises?

Amateurs.

This Editor misspent many youthful hours reading old military magazines, like Air Force Magazine from July-September 1943. I loved to try to second-guess those old mechanics, although I didn't know know much about it other than what I could glean from clambering around the Memphis Belle, a B-17 that used to sit out in the park. Like Snoopy, my research was terrific, but my flying was lousy.

What about you? In this 1943 issue of the magazine, air force mechanics are challenged to find 11 errors in this picture:

What is wrong with this World War II maintenance picture?

It was part of the air force's way of keeping those mechanics on their toes during those tense war years. Can you find the mistakes? Just click on the picture when you're ready for the answers, courtesy of Uncle Sam.
