Did you ever play soldier/sailor/airman when you were a kid? Did that mean running around the backyard yelling 'Bang!' or floating boats in the bathtub, or circling the garden with outstretched arms making buzzing noises?

This Editor misspent many youthful hours reading old military magazines, like Air Force Magazine from July-September 1943. I loved to try to second-guess those old mechanics, although I didn't know know much about it other than what I could glean from clambering around the Memphis Belle, a B-17 that used to sit out in the park. Like Snoopy, my research was terrific, but my flying was lousy.
