Your very apropos account of going home and discussing career plans with parents is perfectly timed. I don't know if anybody over in your neck of the woods is all that excited about it, but in the US, all anybody who reads can talk about is Harper Lee's 'new' book.
And it's about a young woman coming home, talking about her career plans, and experiencing culture shock.

Oh, I must read it!
There was a lot of excitement about 'Go Set a Watchman' but then, the reviews suggested it wasn't that good. It would have to be very good to be as good as 'to Kill a Mockingbird'.

It is actually much deeper. I'm more than halfway through now.
However, it will take some scholars a few decades to parse this novel. Sorting out the language, culture, and obscure literary references alone should give people several doctoral dissertation topics... I am enchanted, of course.
All they're doing right now, the lazy press people, is skimming and getting upset about the characters. They haven't studied enough yet...
As someone said, it's as close as you can get to a time machine.
