Is it the "get more copy by lecturing people" school of thought, or the "nobody is reading this anyway" one?
Who'd be Post editor, eh?
Good luck - I hope some more readers are motivated by it. Apparently we have tens of thousands of readers, so maybe this will turn a few of them into writers. And if you're really lucky, they might turn into writers who meet deadlines.

Well, the idea of this column is to help anyone out there who'd like to know..
Maybe every topic isn't suitable for every reader. But who kows? It might speak to someone's condition. Just sort of a scattershot approach.

I tend to think there are three stages of the writing process -
1. Come up with an idea
2. Do a first draft - which can be quite fast
3. Revise and revise.
That's all right if I'm writing a short story or a poem. But if I'm thinking of writing an intelligent entry for the Edited guide, there's a lump of research needed somewhere between 1. and 2. Unless you're an expert on your subject, you need time to tackle that lump
