Very deep story man. It raises all sorts of questions. Is anyone who dies in a catastrophic event a hero? WHY should they think they are? Wouldn't it be more heroic to survive and suffer the pain of recovery? And also the narrator is feeling holier than thou and judging the pick pocket. Why is he a superior being? Because he has a family? Maybe he just had a lot more moral luck than his mugger. No wonder he is stuck in this limbo, if there is a better place to go --he might not qualify.I think JUDGE NOT LEST YEA BE JUDGED is one of the most important and hardest to live by requisites of being a follower of Jesus.

Here is another morally ambiguous story from RL:

There are times when dangerous to society people get exonerated and go on to commit more crimes. That's why only God can judge, and he knows how to judge peoples records. Societies sure don't. They tend to throw more jail time to people who commit property crimes than violent ones against people.

Interesting article. Wonder just how many paragons have been hyped up from being the thugs they actually are/were? As you say judgement by mere mortals can be horribly inaccurate. As for my Raven, I hope there is a special hell set aside for those who prey on the dead and dying, whatever his back story....but that's for another day. Thanks for reading.

Well at battlefields there was always this sort of thievery ---civilians and soldiers both. But I think killing people tends to erode whatever moral fiber humans might have. There is a lot of lawlessness and greed that occurs in the aftermath of a war or occupation of a country for that matter. It happened in all the border states of the Civil War in America see the movie 'Cold Mountain' or in Somalia to this day.
