Goodness me, yes, it would be - 1964. Oh my, I hadn't even thought about that. It's hard to believe the pirate stations only lasted three years, apart from Caroline of course, who carried on. What an effect they had.

It's said that when the BBC picked up several of the pirate DJs for the new Radio 1, the DJs thought they'd better smarten up because they were working at the BBC so they all went out and bought suits and ties, but the BBC engineers thought they'd better dress down to fit in with the hip, trendy pirate DJs so they all went out and bought with-it clothes from Carnaby Street
