Thank you for this. It is my worst nightmare. I am not claustrophobic in a normal environment but underground and confined. Aaargh. You have reminded me why I must never ever get drunk in the company of enthusiastic pot holers. 'It's great, we'll look after you'.

Scares the life out of me not having a 'give up and go back the way you came' route, youre either very brave or a bloody maniac! great stuff!

I was young, I didn't really know what I was letting myself in for.

It was only really afterwards that I realised what we'd done. Both in the pub nearby and back home, other experienced cavers expressed concern that we'd gone down Swinsto as first timers anyway - let alone with the only means escape being forwards.

Ah well, makes a good story to tell the childer.

And it is also a great story to share with your fellow researchers, thanks!

Not sure that I'd want to encourage kids to go on such 'adventures' though.
