Besides with Wikiality it is difficult to know if you can trust your dealer so to speak. Too many mixed metaphors spoil the broth.

You're quite right that the power of myth shouldn't be under-rated. I believe the flood myth goes back thousands of years and there are probably ancient versions of the end of the world myth too.
I suppose they link to long-lasting fears, or hopes, or tell us something about humanity.
The question is how to use those myths to inform fiction now. Perhaps I should and do some thinking.
In the meantime, forget about Santa and celebrate the gradual lengthening of the days and the hope they bring of a new spring and new possiblities.
