Favourite Carol: An athiest's choice

Post 1

pebblederook-The old guy wearing surfer beads- what does he think he looks like?

Favourite carol: Gaudete, mainly because it is in Latin and as an athiest I can relax and enjoy it without having the faintest idea of what I am singing. Well Ok I know it's about the Christian Christmas story.

Refrain:
Gaudete! gaudete!
Christus est natus ex Maria virgine,
gaudete!

1. Tempus adest gratiae, hoe quod optabamus;
carmina laetitiae devote reddamus. Refrain

2. Deus homo factus est, natura mirante;
mundus renovatus est a Christo regnante. Refrain

3. Ezecaelis orta clausa per transistur;
unde lux est orta, salus invenitur. Refrain

4. Ergo nostra contio psallat iam in lustro;
Benedicat Domino; salus regi nostro. Refrain

smiley - wow This is beautiful. Thanks for the recommendation and link. It's so catchy, I may run around singing 'gaudete' all day. smiley - biggrin

Yeah, you're right. Do we think that story in Luke is a documentary? Er, probably not. smiley - winkeye Irrelevant. Is that going to keep us from enjoying some really good music? In a word, no.

What could it mean? 'Rejoice! Christ is born!' Meaning, Rejoice! The spirit of peace and love is born.
