Link's Awakening was my favourite game on Game Boy when I was about 12. A few years later I bought the N64 mainly to play Ocarina of Time. I still love The Legend of Zelda and that's why I think it should be in the Guide.

Hey Tav,

Good entry smiley - ok

I enjoyed reading it, though I'm not a gamer at all. I remember one of my friends having a handheld console that only played 1 game in the early 90s, and that game was Zelda. Do you know what that was?

Thanks!

Ah, yes, it was the first Zelda and the device was called 'Game and Watch'. There were different devices, each with one game on them (for instance Super Mario or Donkey Kong)

Sorry! It seems I was wrong, I thought they reproduced the first game for this device, but it seems they made a separate game of a smaller scale. It seems they also made a tiny gaming device on a wristband with a mini-game of Zelda.
I'll add something about that at the bottom of the Entry. Thanks for making me look at this again!

Excellent entry!
Not games I've played, as I grew up on the Sega-side, but a well-written account. smiley - smiley

We have 4 Nintendo consoles at home and still buy games for all of them on ebay. And I'm waiting for the new stuff they'll soon publish for the WiiU.

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

This is very good, Tav smiley - smiley

Just a thought, in the Spin-offs and other section, would it be worth mentioning Link's Crossbow Training for the Wii? It came with a zapper thingy that you attached the Wii mote and nunchuck to. Was quite fun as well.

Ok, I'll add it, I wasn't sure if it's important enough. smiley - smiley

Gnomon - time to move on

Good entry, Tav! smiley - applause

large orchestras even played it in music halls all over the world
-->
large orchestras have even played it in concert halls all over the world.

the fictional kingdom Hyrule --> the fictional kingdom of Hyrule

the kingdom Hyrule --> the kingdom of Hyrule

it is Link's task to and save the kingdom Hyrule -- not sure if that "and" is there by mistake or if you left something out between "to" and "and".

You say "The rooms of a dungeon can only be visited in a certain order ", and then in the next sentence, "All dungeons can only be accessed in a certain order". Is this second statement just a repetition of the first? If so, please remove it. If you meant it to tell us something different, you'll have to reword it because it is not clear what it means.

magical bracers -- the word bracers is not a normal one. What does it mean?

My daughter made a perfect life-sized copy of Link's shield, if you want a picture of it.

Thanks Gnomon!

I corrected these things.

The 'rooms of a dungeon' is different from 'dungeons' like 'the rooms of a house' is different from 'houses'. I don't know how to explain it better. smiley - huh I even said 'Every dungeon is an underground area built up of many rooms...'

My dictionary translates the English word 'bracer' to Armschiene, Armschutz... meaning something like.. armguard? I thought it's a common word as I've seen it quite often.

Ooooh, I'd love to see that, yes! Maybe it could also be used as an illustration?

Gnomon - time to move on

So are you saying that although Link is free to go to any part of the world he wants to, he can only enter the dungeons in a particular order?

Looking up "bracer", I see it is the correct word for a type of arm-guard, but I've never heard the word before, so it can't be that common. Perhaps people who are interested in armour will know it, but I think it would be worth putting a footnote explaining it, or you could use the term "arm-guard" instead.

Yes, that's what I meant about the dungeons and I put it into the Entry like that. smiley - ok

I changed 'bracer' to 'arm-guard'.

... by the way: I'm never sure if 'armor' or 'armour' is correct. smiley - huh

Armour is correct in British English. Armor is American.

Bracer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A bracer (or arm-guard) is a strap or sheath, commonly made of leather, stone, or plastic that covers the inside of an archer's arm to protect it while shooting.

It looks like eather term seams alright however a Bracer is for mainly archers or lightly armed foot troops a footnote might be in order. smiley - smiley

I enjoyed this Entry smiley - biggrin

I don't think I have ever played an actual Zelda console game, although I have had a go at at least one roleplaying game where I had to go around asking people stuff (didn't really get into it, though) but I did enjoy the Legend of Zelda cartoon series smiley - biggrin

I learned a lot from your Entry - I remember Ocarina of Time being released and advertised on TV, and didn't realise that was in the 20th Century smiley - bigeyes The list of games and the different gameplay styles was fascinating, too smiley - ok
