Hi GB,
I managed to get quite a good look at the moon a bit past midnight that night. It was quite impressive, but then it always is. Not when it was low to the horizon though. After almost a complete week of 10/10 cloud it just happened to be clear on the night here, also the nights before and after.
I really must try to get the scope out a bit more often.

Hi Deke
I am but happy for you that you managed to view the perigee moon.
I also find my life too full of responsibility stuff to enjoy the delights of astronomy the way I used to but I have promised myself the evening of 12 August at Barrie's place, he's the man in charge of our local Astronomy Club, and each year he hosts a star party on the Perseid meteor shower peak. Last year we were clouded out... fingers crossed for this year (won't need the 'scope)

Lets hope for a real clear night and a good few fireballs, at least the Moon will be out of the way. I have done next to no stargazing over the past few months, but I'll try to 'join' you outside on the night.
I've never been to a 'star party', it sounds like fun. Have a great time.
