An article about a fantasy film. There is a section I think I will re-write, but I'll see what you guys think of it first.

hi BB smiley - smiley

You certainly put a lot of work into this and explained a lot smiley - applause... but I have to say it took me about 3 hours to read this and I had to take some very long breaks. smiley - laugh
One thing I waited for all the time, which never came, was a detailed description of what the creatures and the landscape look like. You say very often that it's the best part of the movie, but you never say why exactly. I never saw (or heard of) the film and I have no idea.

Also I think you should get rid of footnote 3. It's not really relevant for a review of this film and explains nothing if you don't know Labyrinth already.

"The film is essentially a metaphor for sex and birth."

Bluebottle, you are a bad, bad man. Did you have to go an put that idea in my head? I'll never be able to watch the film in the same way again, and yes, I have it got on DVD. How can I show this obvious filth to my boys now?

In more serious criticism, the 'Original Concept' section seems oddly placed. It make sense nearer to the top, perhaps by (or in) the 'Growing The Dark Crystal' section.

Also, the 'Overall impression' subsection contains a paragraph which reads:

Relies on internal monologue and lots of high-pitched 'Hmmm's Just as for each skeksis there is an equal and opposite mystic, so Kira is revealed to be linked with Jen, a part of him.

It seems to be missing something off the start...

Other than that, good entry, you evil childhood-destroying man.

Oh, and my favourite moment is when Kira has just saved Jen from falling off a cliff, and he, confused at the method of this saving, exclaims, "I haven't got wings!"

And Kira responds, "Of course not, you're a boy."

Hello Both, thanks for your comments – even the one calling me an 'evil childhood-destroying man' smiley - winkeye.

Footnote 3 (about Toby) is now gone (not to be confused with the current footnote 3) and the confusing paragraph is hopefully clearer now.

I'll think about adding a section on the visuals – especially the Landscape and animals within. The jungle is an extremely-detailed set with constant movement and detailed depth.

And Geggs, the 'the film is essentially a metaphor for sex and birth' section was the one I very nearly cut out of the article and have considered re-writing, but thought I'd see what people think of it.

I'm rapidly running out of favourite films I've grown up with and watched once or twice a year more or less every year of my life...

Now you just need a footnote to explain a double-flageolet and a crumhorn are and look like, to finish this. smiley - biggrin

I was very taken with Henson's aloenemones (moving plants) scurrying for cover.

I suppose that both aloes and sea anemones (actually an animal) must have occasional impulses that way, though neither can move so fast in nature.
