My Sweet Lord, Who Putta Bop Inna Bop-SheBop, As They walked
Thru a Storm, Up The Stairway To Heaven...

I was actually planning to start a thread on this subject in ASK
but very quickly amazed myself with dozens, approaching hundreds
of examples of insidious religious messages that have insinsuated
themselves into the Halls of Rock and Roll.

Not just the obvious Soul based R&B tunes that substitute religious
words and names for things like 'baby', but all those good modern
white folks like U2, the Beatles, Elvis, Dylan, Cohen... even the
Jefferson Airplane wrote and sang about the Crown of Creation.

It really needs a proper Entry for `Religious Themes in Pop Music`
and that really needs a proper ASK survey to even begin to be truly
comprehensive.

smiley - biggrin Hey, that is one good thought, there. Go for it!

It's really not surprising. Back in the 18th Century, a lot of 'pop' tunes ended up being recycled as Methodist hymns.

Which makes me suspect that one of the Wesleys was first to utter that old saw, 'Why should the devil have all the good music?' smiley - whistle

Here's a good link for you:

This church music guy, while admitting they used pop music, denies that they used 'drinking songs'. smiley - rofl

Check out the last paragraph - about Rodgers and Hammerstein suing the Methodists over 'Edelweiss'.
