Yes, I'd like to know more about these optional desired feathers.
I am supposing that any rank of plumage is acceptable but
how should I affix them? Is there a preferred method?
Or is grow-your-own really the optimal option.

Now methinks you didna read your own instructions
for the construction of a Napoleonic tin hat, IE
item 4: "Crimp to taste for a jauntier and tighter
fit. Add feathers as desired."
I generally find feathers quite desirable. Most
especially the flighty kind.

I may have to help with that one, jwf.
Rod's Rubaiyat here is a work of towering genius...
As Editor, I provide the illustrations. And, in honour of the epic sweep of Rod's imagination, I decided to add - as illustration merely - my old instructions for Nigel's tinfoil hat.
Nigel's normally not fussy about the feathers, but he thought they might add a jaunty touch to the otherwise paranoid-looking headgear.

Aha! Editorial distortion!
A wee bit of illustrative foofaraw.
I shoulda known someone had been monkey wrenching
the work of honest men when I went to copy and paste
the relevant line. It picked up the entire page of tin-hat
instructions as a jpeg.
Not like Rod to go around inserting round jpegs into
square wholes (sic).
